Watch Me Grow: 8 Months

My baby is 8 months old!  It seems like it's been a big month with lots of changes.  Cal is growing by leaps and bounds, talking more and more, and trying new things.

Eating:  You are completely on formula now and are taking four bottles a day, each one between 4-6 oz.  You are trying more meats (turkey, chicken, beef) and have started experimenting with solids.  You are successfully eating puffs and cheerios at this point.  You are obviously getting what you need now that we have completely switched to formula because you are growing, growing, growing!

Sleeping:  This continues to be a struggle.  The good news is that you typically sleep all night without waking up, however you are waking up between 5 and 5:30 in the morning, ugh!  We just can't figure this out.  Although, this morning you slept until 6:30, woohoo!!!  Maybe, just maybe this will be a new trend.  Mommy can only hope!  You are taking two naps a day, on good days they are between 1 1/2 to 2 hours long.  Lately you have been crying when we put you down to sleep, which is also a new habit.  The doctor seems to think its an age thing and you are just protesting going to sleep because you would rather be with us.

Milestones:  Its been a big month.  I'm just going to bullet point them because there is a lot.

  • You are sitting so well on your own, you have figured out how to get to your tummy from sitting to.
  • Starting to push up when you are on your tummy, I think crawling will be coming soon.
  • You can pick up little puffs or cheerios with your fingers and get them to your mouth (sometimes).
  • Got your first tooth on June 18th
  • Started clapping
  • give big slobbery kisses on mom's cheek
  • babbling like crazy (lots of da, ga, and just started ba)
  • your eye (blocked tear duct) seems to have improved
  • for the first time in a long time, you are not sick on your monthly birthday, yeah!

Grandpa's Retirement

We celebrated my Dad's retirement last month!  The University had a nice reception/program to honor my dad and then my mom had planned a party for our extended family and mom and dad's close friends.  It was such a fun day!  I loved hearing people speak so highly of my dad and all of his accomplishments.  Of course I've always known what an amazing man he is, but it was awesome to hear other people talk so well of him.  We are all so proud!

Jackson had a front row seat (Grandpa's number one fan!)

Dad, I'm so excited for you and mom to live the rest of your lives doing fun things together, whatever it is you want to do and when you want to do it!  Thank you for your example of work ethic, but also of the importance of priorities.  You worked hard but work was never more important than family.  Love you!!
